This altar is mounted by the Brotherhood de Las Aguas (originally founded in 1750 in the Triana neighborhood), now located in the Arenal neighborhood near the Cathedral and Guadalquivir River.

Corpus Christi (in Latin ‘the body of Christ’) is a feast of the Catholic Church intended to venerate the Eucharist. It is a feast that used the liturgical calendar that takes place in Seville on the Thursday after the octave of Pentecost (the Christian festival of Whitsuntide celebrated on the seventh Sunday after Easter). The feast refers to the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ.

On balconies, shop windows, arches and churches there are altars with Eucharistic religious motifs and Marians alluding to the festival.

For this time, the Brotherhood presents on its altar on the top a painting of “The Guardian Angel”, a replica of Bartolomé Esteban Murillo, which is currently located on the side of the main altar of the Rosario chapel (Brotherhood de Las Aguas).

In the centre of the altar, you can see the Monstrance, a silver plated piece of approximately 60 cm. tall (from 1992). Other elements, the Holy Chalice which carries the sculpture of an Angel that accompanies the Holy Christ of Las Aguas on his processional departure. The sculpture was constructed by Juan Abascal in 1962.

The altar will be decorated with fruits, foods, and flowers to represent an offering. You can hear the traditional music of the Corpus Christi and the procession in the background.
